  • Wind around highs are anti clockwise in southern hemisphere
  • Wind around lows are clockwise
  • Lines close together = windy

Wind direction

  • Wind is parralel to isobars unless marked
  • Wind is referred to as where it is coming from
  • wide spaced isobars

Pressure systems

High pressure: no clouds

  • Lows have cloud: rising air is cooling air
  • high: stable conditions, cold falling air, and spin anti clockwise

Sources of rain:

  • low pressure
  • cold front
  • orographic rain: onshore winds with wet air: if strong onshore wind onto the east coast
